Amberg's "Stadtbrille"

Highlight • Bridge

Always a beautiful sight and highlight of every city tour. The two arches are reflected in the water of the Vils and thus result in the well-known "Amberger Stadtbrille".

July 23, 2025,Fünf-Flüsse-Radweg - Tag 4 - von Regensburg nach Amberg
After a day's rest in Regensburg, we continued along the Danube to the Naab. Then we followed the Vils River and rode along a railway cycle path to Amberg.

It was the most beautiful stretch of the route so far. The entire route was right on the water, through beautiful nature, yet still varied. The railway cycle path was really …

Today we did Stage 2 from Amberg to Regensburg. We liked this route better. It first runs along the Vils River, then along the Naab River until you reach the Danube. Even though it rained at the beginning, it was a very nice, quiet route. It was a lot of fun. Regensburg is also a very pretty city.

We leave the Danube heading north along the Naab. Great weather, exemplary cycle paths and a very beautiful landscape. Coffee is available today in beautiful Kallmünz. We now follow the Vils river to Amberg. From Schmidmühlen, the cycle path follows a former railway line. We rest again at the former train station in Theuern and then roll into beautiful Amberg.

Stage 5: Regensburg - Amberg
We left Regensburg over the Stone Bridge and cycled back to the mouth of the Naab.
We took a short lunch break in the pretty castle town of Kallmünz.
The rest of the way in the Vilstal ran mostly on a former railway line.
Right at the entrance to Amberg's old town, the city's landmark, …

Today we went on beautiful paths along the Naab, then along the Vils to Sulzbach-Rosenberg.

The landscape is partly similar to the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. We particularly liked the town of Kallmünz.
Overall, a really nice start with lots of sunshine.

Easy-to-navigate railway cycle paths along Vils and Naab brought me today quickly from Amberg via Kallmünz to Regensburg. I didn't go up to the castle in Kallmünz because of the rain.

A wonderful 2nd stage of the Five Rivers Cycle Path from Sulzbach-Rosenberg to Regensburg.
Fantastic cycle paths through the Vilstal and Nabtal, with the very best cycling weather.
