Matting Danube Ferry

Highlight • Bridge

What a nice way to cross the Danube! The current of the river will take you to the other side, controlled only by a rope. Simple and yet terrific.

Note that the ferrymen take a lunch break from 12 noon to 1 p.m. You can find out the current ferry times and prices here: pentling.de/freizeit-kultur/#faehre

It was a very dusty tour, as the path consisted of 90 percent hard-packed and loose gravel, with a section of loose gravel stones. In this weather, it was quite exhausting with cyclists coming towards us and overtaking us. It was still beautiful!

As with our last multi-day tour, we unfortunately had a rainy day again this year. But we cycled through the tour despite the sometimes heavy continuous rain.

Unfortunately, a tire failure meant I couldn't record the rest of the tour to Beilngries.
The landscape along the Altmühl is beautiful 😍

A very beautiful route, almost always along the water. There are several places to stop for refreshments, which are also open on Tuesdays. The route was partly paved, with a larger section covered in fine gravel. But it was all very easy to ride.

The third day started with rain. Further along the Altmühl, the river flowed into the Danube after 20km.
We followed the Danube to Regensburg.
Since it rained continuously and we were so wet and dirty, we cycled the 57km without stopping or stopping for refreshments.
In Regensburg, the Green Spirit Hotel was our destination. We were able to park our …

In bright sunshine and in a great mood, we completed our last leisurely "Rivers Tour" leg to Regensburg today. Since travel is, as we all know, educational, we now also know what Prunn Castle has to do with the Nibelungenlied (see photo) and why the "Tatzlwurm" wooden bridge is only the second longest in Europe. 😉 Tomorrow we'll take the …

The final stage of my summer bike tour initially continued along the Main-Danube Canal / Altmühl. This flows into the Danube in Kehlheim. Here the path became a bit more interesting again, because the river naturally has significantly more currents than a canal and the landscape has changed a bit again. The destination of the stage is Regensburg and since …
