Vennbahn Rail Trail

Highlight • Cycleway

From Aachen to Troisvierges or vice versa, the Vennbahn is always a relaxing experience. The minimal slope and the fully asphalted cycle path ensure the highest driving comfort. The Vennbahn is part of the Ravel program of the Walloon Region in Belgium and is reserved for non-motorized traffic.

May 2, 2025,Vennbahn von Montenau bis Troisvierges1
Today, my second Vennbahn loop.
Very beautiful, with a few more climbs and downhills than on the trip to Roetgen, and often through small, picturesque villages. I also made a detour to the Vennbahn tunnel, which was closed due to the bat habitat.

Unfortunately, Komoot stopped again.

Similar weather to yesterday, around 20 degrees. I drove this section of the Vennbahn in 2022, when cleanup work from the flood year of 2021 was still going on, in particular an arched bridge was under construction at the time. It's now finished and beautiful.

The tour is very different from the route St. Vith - Monschau. There are some steep passages (up to 10%), the landscape is characterized by meadows, forest and some streams that are crossed again and again. The character of the moor is missing.
The tunnel, which is closed due to numerous species of bats, is the highest point - in …

From the campsite we went directly to Waimes via hilly but little-used country roads. After coffee and croissants for breakfast, we drove straight onto the Vennbahn cycle path; first a short stretch in the direction of Monschau and then turn off at the junction in the direction of Troisvierges.
In bright sunshine we enjoyed the beautiful landscape, some with great …

What a beautiful day. 🤣
The best cycling weather, first we went 30 km to Luxembourg and then back to Belgium to St. Vith / Rodt (German or not yet?) with a cool blonde.
Yes and we climbed over 1,100 meters today - and I'm particularly proud of my wife 🤗

Today we drove the second part of the Vennbahn from Weywertz to Troisvierges. There were few major sights, but the beautiful and varied landscape made up for that. The sun did its best and it was mostly downhill, what more could you want? The only slightly larger town on the route was Sankt Vith. We had a little refreshment there, …
