Schwabentor (Swabian Gate), Freiburg im Breisgau

Highlight • Historical Site

The Schwabentor was built in the middle of the 13th century as a city gate within the fortification to protect the citizens.

Today it houses the Zinnfigurenklause, a museum in which historical events are recreated with pewter figures.

Dreisam Valley

Highlight (Segment) • River

In the Dreisamtal there are a number of small roads and paths on which you can get in the direction of St. Peter, St. Märgen, Schauinsland/Notschrei or the Zastlertal. It's also great for rolling up after starting in Freiburg.

Highlight (Segment) • Religious Site

Currently (10 \ 2018), the surface was renewed from St. Peter and it now runs until just before Eschbach velvety smooth. Especially in the downhill a pleasure!

Vineyards above Glottertal

Highlight • Natural

The vineyards in the Glottertal, which lie above the village, are somewhat unusual for the Black Forest, but are therefore all the more interesting.

Bad route in Freiburg, I think I have corrected it a little. I think the route can be improved.

At Heuweiler there were a few heavy raindrops from the dark grey clouds above me, in St. Peter there was a lot of thunder and in the Dreisamtal the roads were wet. Otherwise I was fortunately not affected. It must have been pretty crazy in Freiburg.

We actually wanted to go up to the Plattenhof because we hadn't done it in ages. Unfortunately, Thommy's back knee didn't cooperate. So we took a shortcut via St. Peter. We were lucky because the announced rain band came an outrageous 1.5 hours early.

The gorse bush blooms golden yellow,
The sun shines golden too
The step is round, one rolls quickly,
The tour flies, the fun wins.

Although still a little fresh and unfortunately also quite salty roads in the snow - nevertheless the "right" racer had to come out today - for the first time this year. The light wheel is just nice on the mountain and it also runs much better downhill.

The old year is coming to an end with sunshine, a good opportunity to ride your bike one last time in 2024.

Happy New Year 2025 to all of you, which will hopefully bring lots of good things and one or two nice outdoor activities!

Finally and thanks to summer time, daylight again during the week at the end of the day 👍. ☀️ Sunshine can't be replaced by the best artificial light 🕯️💡.
