The dam is beautiful in every season. It was once built for flood protection, but now it's also used for tourism.

Kelbra Reservoir (Kelbra Dam)

Highlight • Monument

The dam is always worth a detour, there is even something new. There are two new stork nests on light poles and one of them is even inhabited.

A beautiful and, above all, easy tour. Hardly any incline, almost as flat as in Holland.
On the way to Kelbra, the landscape is very beautiful and varied, especially around the lake. On the way back, the landscape is somewhat less varied.
However, the paths are all very well-maintained.

The weather forecast for today was really promising, so this is the perfect time to get our bikes out of winter quarters. So unfortunately we couldn't find the sunshine that the weathermen had promised us, on the contrary it was very hazy the whole day...yes it seemed almost spooky but at least the temperatures were around 20 degrees Celsius. We …

Today's bike tour took us to the Kelbra reservoir where the cranes gather every year. We saw and heard a few. You can't really tell from the pictures but it was another beautiful tour.

Showing Translation

There were a lot of cranes to be seen resting here at the reservoir and the surrounding area.

The tour was a bit boring at the beginning because it only went on side roads or the bike path only went next to the roads. But after that everything was great. The landscape is beautiful here.

After the fog finally cleared this afternoon, we decided to go for a bike ride to the Kelbra reservoir and see how things had developed with the cranes. The closer we got to the reservoir, the denser the streams of visitors became, arriving by car, bike or on foot. It was also quite crowded on the dam itself; in our …

In glorious weather, I'm on the cycle path from Nordhausen to Kelbra. Along the dam, it always feels like I'm in Tuscany or some southern region; the warmth, flowers, and fragrant trees, wonderful 🤗 Then the encounter with Andi l and Marini l, they recognized me straight away 😊 I was very happy to meet you.

Our 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️ from Nordhausen to the Kelbra reservoir, where thousands of cranes take a break every year, but unfortunately there weren't any to be seen then we drove to the Solquelle near Auleben, it was a nice tour all round
