January 18, 2023,Werraquell Hütte Werraquelle - Runde von Masserberg ❄️
A wonderful winter tour from Masserberg with a stop at the Werraquell Hütte, then further in the direction of Rennsteig to the Eselsberg with the Turmbaude and back to Masserberg past the ski stadium.

A short walk from Masserberg to the Werraquellhütte. Here you will find one of the two Werra springs. Today, Saturday, the place was not very busy. A visit to the Rennsteigwarte was also a must in this beautiful weather.

Again the weather fairy predicted sun ... so we went out into the snow again, this time in a completely different direction ... to Masserberg. Here, too, we were lucky with the parking lot, less than five minutes later everything was full. We started at the Rennsteighaus, our destination was the source of the Werra. Not difficult to find even …

From here, the ground becomes much nicer because it is soft (spruce needles several centimeters thick). After a short stretch through the forest, you reach the Werra spring …

Masserberg Parking Lot - Werraquell Hut - Turmbaude - Masserberg Parking Lot
A very pleasant, leisurely walk. Lunch at the Werraquell Hut, with its exceptionally good Thuringian cuisine, is highly recommended; or simply a break on the sun terrace.
The damage caused by the bark beetles is alarming.
