The Rennsteig leads past several hundred (about 1000) landmarks and 13 three-man-stones, which show a variety of former country borders. The oldest dates from 1513, most of the remaining stones from the 18th century. On the stones is the year of stone setting and a consecutive number. The territories of three countries collided at the three-man stones.

To be found in the hiking area near Masserberg, around the donkey mountain. For all historically interested. On a route section of about two km on the Rennsteig, 8 historic landmarks show up at the original location. They testify to the border lines of various Thuringian dominions.

Very interesting stones, I would like to know what the symbols on the stones mean

The high path over the Thuringian Forest was for the most part also a border path.

The recurring boundary stones could almost be seen as a second hiking marker.

The picturesque boundary stones on the REnnsteig can be found every few meters, sometimes more, sometimes less weathered. You can literally sniff the long time that this long-distance hiking trail has been around.
