Nikolai Tower, Görlitz

Highlight • Monument

The Nikolaiturm in Görlitz is 45 meters high and with the Reichenbacher Tower and the thick tower it is one of the 3 still existing towers of the former city fortifications of Görlitz. The historic old town of Görlitz begins at the Nikolaiturm and ends at the Nikolaivorstadt.

Görlitz Post Office

Highlight • Monument

The Görlitzer Postplatz was and is one of the most important squares in the city of Görlitz, even if it has lost some of its external glamor since its redesign in 1938 and of its importance since the changes in building functions in recent times. It has developed from the cattle pasture into a central square, which the royal-Prussian and later the imperial-German post office, the court and representative civil buildings gave its frame. Different designs of the green area with the Toberenz fountain, affectionately called Mushelminna by the people of Görlitz, in the center has experienced different versions. The publication is based on a garden conservation study, the aim of which is to find the shape of the square in the future.

September 19, 2023,D-Route 12: Görlitz - Rothenburg
Görlitz is a city absolutely worth seeing - perhaps Germany's most beautiful. Take plenty of time to look at all the parts! The route along the Neisse from the border triangle south of Zittau to Bad Muskau is undemanding, mostly flat and very well paved.

Stage 2 of my Oder-Neisse cycle path had a focus on Görlitz (5 hours city, museum, sightseeing) - but it should still be a few km Neisse and it was worthwhile: painter, easternmost point in Germany, an old bridge ruin and finally Rothenburg..... More km tomorrow.

The Neisse cycle path is in very good condition. It's fun to cycle here. However, the sections from the Neißetal to the higher areas are often quite demanding. There were many open spaces on the route where sun and wind can make life difficult for cyclists.

Leaving Görlitz, we followed the road for a while because it's closer to the Neisse River and has a better surface than the bike path. Later, we continued on the Neisse Cycle Path to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, where the central square of Neiße-Tours is located. Along the way, the proximity to the Einsiedel Cultural Island was also evident on …

This was the last stage. A beautiful route with mostly well-built roads that Komoot did not know all about. I also made a detour to Poland. Otherwise it would have been 25-27 km.

An easy but beautiful route along the Neisse River.

But there are a few more to come this week.

My wife really liked this section of the cycle path along the Neisse through open country and Neißeauen. On the way back I wanted to get close to my Neisse. went too. Felt like a border guard on patrol. Great day in full sun🌞

Today we're on our 6th leg of the ONR. Since we had planned yesterday's tour of Görlitz for this morning, our route to Rothenburg is only 35 km long. So we sleep in, take a leisurely tour of the Baroque house on the market square, and drive to Rothenburg in a relaxed manner, not without stopping for a Hugo or …
