Along the shore of the Markermeer you have a wide view over the water, with a view to the other side on clear days. Enjoy the fresh wind, the reflecting water and passing boats.

The façade stones of these 17th-century houses resemble a comic strip: They tell the story of the Battle of the Zuiderzee, which the West Frisians fought against Admiral Bossu's Spanish fleet in 1573. The West Frisians defeated the fleet here with their own fleet of small, maneuverable boats and conquered Bossu.

The Statenlogement is a monumental building in the town centre of Hoorn, situated at the intersection of five streets. It was built in 1613 and has a double stepped gable. The facade features the coats of arms of seven towns: Medemblik, Edam, Alkmaar, Hoorn, Enkhuizen, Monnickendam and Purmerend. Until 1796 it served as a hotel (accommodation) for guests attending meetings of the College of Committed Councils of the Northern Quarter and West Friesland. After that it served as town hall until 1977. Today weddings are performed there and official receptions of the city administration are held. The town hall function has been moved to the new building on the Nieuwe Steen in the district of the same name. The Statenlogement also contains a chapel, the Cecilia Chapel, which belonged to the Cecilia Monastery. The chapel was converted into a dining room for the gentlemen of the Gecommitteerde Raden, the exterior of which was hardly changed.
