The forest was a bit swampy.

The municipality of Obdam had the then town hall renovated in 1832. That town hall housed not only the municipal council, but also the polder council and the primary school. The head teacher also had his home and schoolroom there since 1834. In 1873 the municipality decided to have the old town hall replaced by a new building. The reason for new construction is not known, but it is known that councilor J.J. Haarselhorst was a big supporter. The foundation stone of the new building was laid on March 27, 1874.[2] Haarselhorst ordered a clock to be installed on the facade and a clock to strike the hours on the roof. The town hall was completed on April 23, 1875.[2] The building was also used as a polder house.[3] The government of the Obdam polder paid half of the construction costs,[2] so that it could also use the town hall.

In the middle of the village of Obdam you will come across a large church with a high tower, the Roman Catholic Saint Victor Church. It was inaugurated in 1892 and replaced a smaller church of the same name. The architect is A.C. Bleys, who designed several churches and also built the (former) town hall of Obdam. The architectural style of this church is neo-Gothic. The interior of the church is light and harmonious. Beautiful Stations of the Cross, in relief. They date from 1910. Behind the altar are a number of paintings. I was told that the Saint Victor Church was voted the most beautiful church in North Holland in 2008. That surprised me somewhat, because although the church is very nice to see, it still lacks the patina of time. The church is still in use by the Catholic community of Obdam and surrounding areas.
