Mariakapel De Keins near Schagen is a special place of silence, and is located on an ancient pilgrimage route. The white plastered chapel with its graceful statue of Mary stands on a small mound and offers a view over the vast North Holland polder landscape.

There is a beach with swimming water, there are walking paths and there are fishing piers. Indoor swimming pool De Wiel is nearby.

The Schager Wiel is a nature and recreation area on the southwest side of Schagen. The heart of the area is the lake 'De Wiel', formed during a major flood in 1248.

The castle, built by Willem, an illegitimate son of Duke Albrecht, was no longer inhabited from 1706. In 1799, the castle was occupied by English and Russian troops, resulting in total destruction. After 1820 the castle was demolished, with the exception of the two round corner towers. Archaeological research showed that the walls were no thicker than 70 cm, making the castle hardly defensible at that time. A wooden predecessor of the castle may have been built around 1300. Today only the two towers remain as a ruin on the former castle grounds on the south side of the Market Square.
