Mount Toraro (1,897 m) is a rounded mountain that on clear days offers a 360° panoramic view of the surrounding mountains: the Fiorentini Plateau, Lago/Passo Coe, the Brenta Dolomites, the Adamello Group, the Lagorai, the Asiago Plateau, the Piccole Dolomiti (Summano, Novegno, Pasubio, Carega), and even extending to the Veneto Plain! The summit is ideally positioned to cover a wide border area between Veneto and Trentino (formerly between Italy and Austria), and for this very reason, at the beginning of World War I, it was the emplacement of an Italian gun battery supporting the nearby Campomolon Fort. With the Strafexpedition of 1916, it was one of the first Italian peaks to fall into Austro-Hungarian hands. During the Cold War, a NATO missile base (one of 12 in the Triveneto region) was established between the Folgaria and Tonezza plateaus. It operated from 1966 to 1977, ready to intervene 365 days a year in the event of conflict with the Soviet Union. "Base Tuono" consisted of three units: the Launch Area, located at Passo Coe, with three conventional (non-nuclear) Nike-Hercules missiles; the Control Area (radar and command vehicles), located right here, on the broad summit of Mount Toraro; and the Logistics Area, at Tonezza del Cimone. Now, everything on Mount Toraro has been dismantled and leveled with concrete. The (boring) asphalt road leading to the summit was built specifically to make it easy to reach the command post. Monte Erio, despite not being particularly high (1627m), thanks to its central position offers a remarkable view of the Asiago Plateau: on one side the northern mountains, with Verena and Portule in the foreground; on the other the fields and districts on the edge of the Val d'Assa, as well as a glimpse of the Tonezza plateau, Novegno and Val d'Astico; going down towards the east, you have a beautiful view of the Asiago basin. The mountain does not have a real summit with a 360° panorama, and is surrounded by tall fir trees, so you have to move around to see all the slopes. It is a very quiet and little frequented area, with relaxing and sweet dawns, very green in summer, snowy in winter.

During the First World War, Monte Rust was an important military communication point, using light signals and carrier pigeons, with a fundamental role in the network of forts of the highlands. Remains can be visited today.
