During World War I, military communications were conducted via telephone and telegraph, linked by kilometers of underground cables. Fearing that bombing raids could easily cut them, the Austro-Hungarian army adopted alternative systems such as carrier pigeons and light signals. Optical signals, in particular, found widespread use in communications between forts: this dedicated station was set up on the summit of Monte Rust, a modest elevation (1,280 meters) but strategically located centrally with respect to the empire's fortifications: Vezzena, Busa Verle, Cherle, Luserna, Belvedere, Sommo Alto, and Dosso delle Somme. It was also set back and therefore protected from the front line. From here, under the orders of the tactical command below, Virti, the operations of all the fortresses on the plateaus were coordinated. Special holes cut into the walls, perfectly oriented toward the forts and observation posts, housed projectors that allowed the transmission and reception of encrypted Morse code signals. These metal tubes, still visible today, not only had precise alignment but also concealed the light source from the enemy. The smaller holes were used as telescopes. Today, the skeleton of the building remains, and can be visited freely, including the gallery. Over the course of a century, the trees have grown, and the 360° panorama is only visible by climbing the building. http://gg1418.marconirovereto.it/RepositoryElement.html?idRepo=7C7919C3-8278-4F7F-A539-D87A6CF093FE

1월 27, 2023, Forte Vezzena (Cima Vezzena)
An Austro-Hungarian fortified observation post from the Great War, nicknamed "the Eye of the Plateaus" for its strategic position overlooking Asiago and the Valsugana Valley, with visual and visual links to Folgaria and the Vicenza Prealps. It was boldly built on the northern slope, overlooking the valley with a 1,300-meter drop, sheltered from enemy artillery fire. The Italians attempted to capture this fort several times between 1915 and 1916, but were unsuccessful; the fortress proved impregnable. It has countless variations of name (in Italian and German), like the peak on which it stands: Cima Vezzena, Pizzo Vezzena, Spitz Vezzena, Pizzo di Levico, Spitz Verle. https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forte_Vezzena

La Marzola is the mountain that separates the Adige valley from the Valsugana and on which the towns of Villazzano and Povo, suburbs of Trento, rise. The Rombonos stream is born here in the Terre Rosse area.
