An old church with very old furnishings. The church is always open until 5 p.m.

When walking around the church, you pass old stone sarcophagi. They were used to bury people in villages who disappeared during storm surges. The stone coffins were later found in mudflats and were used as watering holes for livestock on the remaining land (more information on the information board)

"In the middle of the countryside" is no great surprise. To the west of Süderlügum there is almost exclusively reclaimed land. I once read that 100 years ago you could take a boat from Aventoft to Leck. Lecker used to be a port town (Lecker Au). This is a wonderful path to the Ladelund concentration camp memorial and meeting place. The path roughly corresponds to the route of the anti-tank ditch that forced laborers wanted to dig over 13 km to Humptrup. The meeting place was beautifully redesigned in 2018 and contains information for various ways of dealing with the topic. By the way, it is also very nice to drive to the Schwesing memorial on the Geest. I have already done that myself. The Kolkerheide near Löwenstedt is similar to the landscape near Süderlügum.

The mill looks very nice, and Achtrup is also worth a tour, a beautiful village.

The mill - "Jenny" - is the landmark of Achtrup. The windmill of the Kellerholländer* type with sails and compass rose was built in 1889 and, with the founding of "Das Kinderhaus zur Mühle" in 1984, converted to use as an apartment and children's home. The property on which the mill is located has a total area of 8 hectares and offers an adventure playground, soccer field, horse riding center and gardens for the children. In addition, three ponds are created as different biotopes. The mill and miller's house are listed monuments. *Basement Dutchman Is a mill where you could drive a wagon or tractor into the mill base on one side and out again on the other side.
