The Elbe cycle path leads along here with a few meters of altitude. It is unpaved and very winding, so you might have to push it at times.

In the comments, the assessments of the navigability differ somewhat. The photos also show sections that run along the shore or lead down to the water. The path at the campsite is also very narrow and partly muddy. So my tip: If you follow the signs for the Elbe Cycle Path, you will be led onto a road about halfway above the water (can also be seen on many photos).

One of the most beautiful ways around Hamburg. To hike directly above the river in a great forest and view of the Bille - fantastic.

On the way there is a diversion sign because of allegedly swampy places on the further way. Unfortunately, there is a risk of getting lost when rerouting.

Nice pond fed by "Schwarze Au". There are various nice restaurants here, where you can also sit outside on the sunny terrace.

Also in the summer of 2021 there will be the great event "The Elbe is on fire" in August (13th?), Fire brigade and DLRG light up the river at night. Wonderful to watch from both sides of the Elbe, don't forget a picnic and blankets, the humidity makes the evenings cool. The campsite in Stove is ideal for overnight stays.

The Schwarze Au is dammed up here to form the mill pond. The first mill was the grain mill on the mill pond just before the river flows into the Bille. It was first mentioned in a document in 1350 in a messenger invoice from the Hamburg treasury. It was a compulsory mill for 13 surrounding villages until the introduction of freedom of trade. In 1650, the Auemühle brewery is attached to the mill and licensing rights are granted. 1681 Construction of a sawmill "not far from the place where the awe flows into the bille". It is always a highlight and eye-catcher to cross the bridge of this barrage of the Elbe. The view of both sides of the Elbe is impressive and always beautiful. There is hardly an interesting bridge over the Elbe.
