The Kasteelpark in Empel was given the status of archaeological national monument in the 1970s. The remains of a medieval castle and a brick oven lie underground, which were used as a starting point for the design of the park. A ceramic work of art (photo) is a reminder of the medieval brick oven that was discovered here. During archaeological excavations, only foundations and a few wall remains were found of the castle that appears in 13th century written sources as the Meerwijk castle. The oldest mention of a Lord of Meerwijk appears in a charter from 1231. The castle was probably considerably damaged in the 16th century during the Guelders Wars and later in the 80-year war. From the 17th century onwards, it fell into disrepair until in the 19th century only a few wall remains were left standing.

Beautiful eroded banks with a considerable difference in height above the Maas. It is clearly visible that the layer of fertile soil is only thin.

De Heinis is a street and nature reserve in 's-Hertogenbosch. The name is reflected in a street name in Rosmalen. The Heinis is one of the few remaining parts of the winter dike of the Maas. Pieces of winter dike can also be seen at Bruggen, Rosmalen. The old dike ran all the way to Orthen. The dike was severed by the arrival of the A2. The dike was constructed in the 14th century and was the south side of the Polder van der Eigen and the catchment area of the Beerse Maas. The area has often suffered from flooding. The wheels that are still there are silent witnesses to this. The dike was part of the line during the Siege of 's-Hertogenbosch in 1629. The Heinis is sandwiched by industrial estates and the various neighborhoods of 's-Hertogenbosch. This makes the Heinis a unique part of 's-Hertogenbosch. Fort Orthen is the youngest fort near 's Hertogenbosch. Together with Fort Crèvecoeur, it had to defend the fortified city from the north. However, the fortress never played a major role in combat. Today the fortress has been restored and artists rent studio spaces there. It is also home to the Orthens archive of the local history circle de Orthense Schaar.

Between a neighborhood and an industrial estate you will find this beautiful walking path in a small nature park. NB! In some parts you can walk between/along the trees. That's what you should do :)

The cemetery is a beautiful park that is very beautifully landscaped. Peace and lots of nature. "Het Theelicht" is a location in the cemetery for a cup of tea and a listening ear. There is also a chapel, urn field and many beautiful graves.
