Fort Orthen is the youngest fort near 's Hertogenbosch. Together with Fort Crèvecoeur, it had to defend the fortified city from the north. However, the fortress never played a major role in combat. Today the fortress has been restored and artists rent studio spaces there. It is also home to the Orthens archive of the local history circle de Orthense Schaar.
