Church in Aukrug

The cemetery behind the church is in a quiet location, has several benches, some of which are sunny, a short linden tree alley and several water taps. This makes it a very suitable place to take a break.

Next door is a memorial from 1922 for those who died in World War I. The memorial and the church tower, which was built later, are therefore from the same period and their designs were created by the imperial building councillor and church architect Jürgen Kröger, who lived in Innien in retirement.

The Aukrug Evangelical Church was built in 1893. It received its tower exactly three decades later. The neo-Gothic church has a classic apse, which is the eastern semicircular end of the church, where the slightly raised altar is located.

The church, consecrated in 1893, is interesting because a small turret was built next to the actual church tower on the roof of the nave.
