A church with a wooden tower dates back to the 11th century. Construction began in the 13th century on a stone church, which was modified and expanded primarily in the 15th and 17th centuries. The church was significantly enlarged in 1655 with the support of Count Eugeen de Berghe, Lord of Sint-Brixius-Rode (see the coat of arms on the west facade). When the church became very dilapidated at the end of the 19th century, urgent repairs were necessary. Between 1907 and 1908, the church underwent a thorough renovation in the Neo-Gothic style, carried out according to plans by architect F. Symons (1869-1942). The Koningsteen is located in the hamlet of Oxdonk. Its origins are unknown. It is generally assumed that it was originally a hunting lodge of the Dukes of Brabant. We do know that it is already mentioned in old chronicles dating from the 16th century. It changed owners many times. It was not until 1671 that it was given its name ‘Coninckxsteen’, at the request of the then owner. Now the Koningsteen is a centre to allow modern man to find himself, to discover his growth power, as it were. (Municipality of Kapelle-op-den-Bos)

Beautiful avenue for walking.

It was the then pastor E.H. Magnus who took the initiative to establish a chapel. In 1954 the necessary funds were collected and that same year this modern chapel was consecrated with great interest. A statue of Mary that once belonged to the late Canon Muyldermans was donated by the family and adorns the beautiful whole. (Heritage cell Kapelle-op-den-Bos)
