When water splashes, you feel a little refreshed in summer. But while the griffin on the market has been surrounded by water again since the end of June and the little elephant on the Neuer Markt is happily spraying water from its trunk, the frog fountain in the city park in Anklam (Vorpommern-Greifswald district) and the water feature on the Peene pedestrian bridge are dry. What's going on?

The Anklam sugar factory was founded in 1883 and was supplied with sugar beets directly via the adjacent Peene. Today it is the only sugar factory in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and belongs to a Dutch company.

The current town hall was built around 1950 and is a listed building. A town hall built around 1400 was demolished in 1842, and a subsequent building was destroyed by bombs in 1945.
