Ludwigsburg Castle was bought by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania a few years ago and is now to be extensively renovated. The castle was originally built in 1577-92 by Duke Ernst Ludwig of Pomerania-Wolgast for his wife Hedwig Sophie. In the past, the building had to contend with frequent changes in ownership, which meant that the economic situation often remained poor.
