The Fontane Monument is a sculpture by the German sculptor Max Klein and was created between 1908 and 1910.
However, the monument was replaced by a copy in 1985 because the original was threatened by weathering and vandalism.

"Fortune, of your thousand lots, / I choose only one:
What good is gold? I love roses / and the simple ornament of flowers.
And I hear the rustling of the forest / and I see a fluttering ribbon –
Exchanging eye to eye glances, / and a kiss on your hand.
Give, take, take, give, / and the wind plays around your hair,
Ah, only this, only this is life, / where heart finds heart."
(Theodor Fontane)
