The Roskilde glasses

The three giant glasses on the square at Roskilde Train Station were designed by the famous Danish artist Peter Brandes. They are 5 meters tall and weigh around 24 tons in total.

They were awarded to Roskilde by local company Stryhn's Leverpostej A/S in 1998 when the town celebrated its 1000th anniversary.

According to the artist, the jars symbolize life and death as they are used to store both food and ashes.

The names of the company's employees and those involved in production are noted on the glasses. A poem by Henrik Nordbrandt about Roskilde and Queen Margrethe I adorns the vessel closest to the station.
