One of the most important shipwreck sites is found in the silt of Roskilde Fjord, which is only a meter deep in places. In particular, the remains of numerous dragon boats (longships) from the Viking Age came to light here. In 1962, 5 Viking ships were found, in 1996, when there had long been a museum for the ship finds and this was being expanded, nine more ships were discovered, one of which is 36 m long and thus the longest dragon boat find ever.
