More than 300 million years ago, acidic magma penetrated a fissure in the earth's upper crust and slowly solidified at depth to form granite porphyry. In a brown-red ground mass there are large potassium feldspars (orthoclase) and phenocrysts of quartz and biotite (mica). By removing the land surface, this rock, which was harder than its gneiss surroundings, was modeled out and, at the latest in the Ice Age, formed this ridge with individual rocks.
