Marteller Hütte

A large hut with a comprehensive menu and very friendly and fast service. All around there is a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. The hut is easy to reach on some very steep ascents.

Between the Zufallhütte and the old dam the way to the Marteller hut is blocked because of the risk of falling rocks until further notice (as of July 2018). The detour is well marked and easy to navigate, but a bit steeper and narrower than the main path.

On Sundays you have to do without the otherwise highly recommended Kaiserschmarrn at the Marteller Hütte - at least in midsummer. Since the hikers' inflow is probably very high on this day, I recommend, if possible, to avoid a different day of the week (and not only because of the Kaiserschmarrns;)

Jausenstation with regional, small dishes such as fried egg, dumpling soup, Kaiserschmarrn, metallurgical noodles, etc. Well maintained, friendly. The panoramic view is of course phenomenal. There is ample seating outside and inside so you can always find a spot with a view. Excellent !

The panoramic view from up here is just awesome - the snow capped peaks, glaciers, etc ... just beautiful!

For experts with glacier equipment a worthwhile goal.

When the weather is nice, you can enjoy a delicious meal in front of a wonderful panorama (including a view of the Ortler summit). Even on hot days you should always have something warm to wear with you. There is often a very strong wind blowing at the hut and some of the tables are unprotected in it.

Bruno, the hut keeper, is happy to accommodate every guest when seated up here. The rooms are cozy, clean and the beds are comfortable. Breakfast is available at 5 or 7 in the morning. Then you can start to explore the glacier world. Most hikers head towards the front Rotspitze at 3033m. Dinner consists of several simple courses. Cheese and eggs are provided for vegetarians, but, as usual in South Tyrol, it will be difficult for vegans.

The Martellerhütte not only offers a brilliant view, but also regional food, drinks. Friendly staff, well maintained. Here you feel comfortable and can enjoy the panoramic view of the mountains all around :-)
