Tips
The oldest winding towers of their kind in Bavaria are in the Upper Palatinate on the Bavarian Iron Road. The pit mine Maffei in Nitzlbuch near Auerbach was one of the most important iron ore mines in Bavaria. Mining of the ore began in 1906 and ended in 1978, during which time approximately 16 million tons were mined.
Since 2005, the Förderverein Maffeispiele e.V. has created a unique adventure show roller course in connection with the preservation of the remaining mining facilities and facilities.
