The popular restaurant Hohe Tanne is located about 3 km southwest of the city center of Auerbach just behind the Eschenbacher Weiher, in maps mostly called Lohwiesenweiher. The inn is only a few meters from the state road (2162) to Neuhaus away, but protected from the traffic noise by a forest.
History: The iron ore won in Auerbach was first brought to Rosenberg (now Sulzbach-Rosenberg) for smelting with horse-drawn carriages. On 23rd June 1882, the Maxhütte asked the Bezirksbergamt in Regensburg for a permit for a cable car from Auerbach to Ranna station. After approval, created in 1882/1883 the Auerbach master builder Josef Schwemmer the cable car, which began operation on June 20, 1883. It led from the colliery Leonie (shaft I) to the high fir. Here, a steam engine was installed, which provided the drive over the 8.5 km long distance. After the "Central Station Hohe Tanne" the cable car then went through the forest on the defunct hamlet starvation to Ranna station. The newspaper reported on the "longest cable car in Germany". In addition to the "Central Station Hohe Tanne" built the Maxhütte for the machinists and other workers in 1882/83, a residential building, which was already approved for beer, but was not yet a licensed restaurant. In 1905, the spouses Schertl, ancestors of the current owner, submitted to the city the request for the establishment of a beer industry. The restaurant, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2005, has been expanded and modernized in recent years, but has retained its rustic character.
