The Kiel-Holtenau lighthouse is one of the most beautiful lighthouses in Germany. It was built in 1895 during the times of Kaiser Wilhelm and is a listed building. Today you can even get married here in a civil registry office. The lighthouse is located directly on the Tiessenkai, which attracts with its special atmosphere. Here in summer you can see traditional sailors, sniff the maritime air and stop in small cafes,

The whole Tiessenkai is worth a visit. The lighthouse as a historic navigation sign is a special starting point.

The lighthouse in Kiel-Holtenau is probably the most beautiful lighthouse in Germany. Not that the red and white or black and white lighthouses are not beautiful, but the Holtenau lighthouse is just beautiful. The lighthouse was built until 1895 during the times of Kaiser Wilhelm and has since been the showpiece among the lighthouses.

Here are a few technical data on the Holtenau lighthouse: The tower is 20 m high and the beacon is approx. 23 m high. The range is 11 nautical miles for the color white and 8 nautical miles for the green. The international order number is C 1246; C 1248. It serves the ships as they enter the Kiel Canal and thus shows them the way. The lighthouse is located directly at the transition from the Kiel Canal to the Kiel Fjord. Nearby is the lock island, which can also be visited in parts.

The red brick building is impressive when you see it. It is one of the sights that should be seen when visiting Kiel. Due to its great design and of course to preserve it for future generations, the lighthouse was placed under a preservation order. A plaque commemorates the inauguration more than 100 years ago: "Kaiser Wilhelm II consecrated the Kiel Canal and handed it over to world traffic on June 21, 1895".

Since March 2001, civil marriages have also been held in the Holtenau lighthouse. For this purpose, the Three Emperor Memorial Hall was converted and today serves as a wedding room on such occasions. Further information can be obtained from the registry office in Kiel.
It is not for nothing that one says about the Holtenau lighthouse: the Kiel-Holtenau lighthouse is more than just a sea mark, it is history, culture and functionality in one.
