The Anderter Alpe was the base camp of the Austro-Hungarian soldiers during the mountain warfare of World War I.

The Anderter Alpe Open-Air Museum commemorates the First World War. Visitors can see the remains of trenches, dugouts, and communication trenches, which impressively demonstrate the harshness of mountain warfare. The Anderter Alpe can be reached via the Rotwand cable car and hiking trail no. 100 in about 45 minutes. Guided tours are offered from mid-June to the end of September and last approximately three hours. The open-air museum combines historical insights with impressive views of the Dolomite peaks and is also a memorial against forgetting.
