We took the Noseholes route on the way back because we thought it was less steep. However, the descent via Tierwies is easier as it is better secured. It is better to choose the Noseholes route uphill!

The Nostrils Route is marked in white and blue and is recommended in dry conditions. The trail first leads up an increasingly steep grassy slope to the rock face, then over some cool, scrambling rock sections with a so-called crux where you almost have to do a bit of climbing. I imagined the whole thing to be more difficult, though. It's doable, but only in dry conditions; otherwise, the risk of slipping is quite high, and the terrain is steep and sloping. I'd recommend taking this route uphill the first time, as it's usually easier.

The route over the nostrils ... quite demanding, varied and impressive - great, rather less committed ascent to Säntis. Good weather is recommended ...
