The RURSEE was created at the end of the 1930s with the construction of the Schwammenauel dam. Since it can also be used for water sports - unlike the Obersee, which flows into this one near Rurberg and is a drinking water protection area - there are also a wide range of activities on the water. The most comfortable option is undoubtedly a round trip from Schwammenauel to Rurberg and back, although you can extend this and change to a second boat in Rurberg that sails the Obersee to Einruhr. A very nice alternative, however, is to only do one section by boat and combine it with a hike.
