The castle ruins are a beautiful hiking and walking destination with refreshment stops. It offers a wonderful view over Weinheim and the Rhine Valley, in good weather up to the Palatinate. The ascent from Weinheim takes about half an hour for the inexperienced and then continues to the Wachenburg ... it's definitely worth it.

The Burgschänke with its small beer garden invites you to linger (attention: only open by reservation!). Not tried it myself, but the knight's meal should really be a success.

The ruin Windeck and the Wachenburg are responsible for the nickname Weinheim, the "two castle city".

Built after 1100 as a protective castle for the Lorsch Monastery, the Windeck was destroyed at the end of the 17th century.
The castle ruins have been owned by the city of Weinheim since 1978. The spiral staircase set into the wall of the keep is an architectural rarity.

From here you have a fantastic view of the old town of Weinheim! There are different ways up here. The old Burgweg and the stairs from the Gerberviertel are the car-free entrances.
There is a good information board on site. You can find out more about the castle here: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_Windeck_(Weinheim)

In addition to the beer garden, which is open in the summer months, there is also the "Burgschänke" at the castle. You can find information about stopping here: burgruinewindeck.de

From the castle you have a great view of Weinheim and the Rhine plain. In summer it's nice to sit in the beer garden. 🍻

Unfortunately also closed, but very nice view, far into the country and in the back to the Wachenburg.

Current information on the opening times of the inn can be found here, may change frequently: burgruinewindeck.de
If it is not open, you cannot enter the castle (e.g. the beginning of September is Tuesdays, Wednesdays ...)

Pocket comment - I unintentionally left something there! You can't delete, but change it.
We are often out and about in Weinheim, and the ruins are often a stopover. Because it is conveniently located (only a few minutes to the old town) and offers a very nice view - especially at sunset. The ruin is very nice, but there are more attractive ones in the surrounding area.

Unfortunately, Windeck Castle was closed, you could only walk on the lower path along the castle. But still very impressive, including a great view
