The Sperlingsee is one of three small lakes in the Volkspark Rehberge. While the larger Möwensee is quite healthy and offers a home to many fish and birds, the other two ponds, Sperlingsee and the smaller duck's nest, are almost biologically dead and will be silted up over time.

The two small bodies of water, Entenpfuhl and Sperlingsee, are due to be desludged from mid-February 2025. The aim of the work is to improve the ecological function of these bodies of water and at the same time prepare them for the future challenges of climate change.
