Lobberich's water tower can be seen from afar. A landmark of the city.

The water tower, a 45m high brick building with plaster strips and a tent-shaped roof, was built in 1898 and has remained a landmark of the place to this day.

The completion of the water tower is recorded in the lintel: Lobberich, Anno 1898.

There was great debate in Lobberich when the energetic mayor Bender set about building a waterworks in 1897.

The citizens of Lobberich feared that this investment would result in significantly higher taxes. However, the district administration approved the loan, not least for "sanitary reasons and fire safety considerations". The waterworks was built in Sittard, not far from the Bengmannshof.

The water tower was built in what was then still an open field at the Link Hagelkreuzkapelle, which dates back to the 17th century. The water supply in Lobberich began on August 6, 1898 with 79 connections; by April 1900 there were already 400 connections.
