Well visible from all sides even if closed, the outdoors archaeological site can be visited during the day free of charge. The museum technically has an entrance fee, but can often simply be accessed from the downstairs excavation catacombs side door.

The agora was only discovered during construction work in 1966. There are two historical approaches to the time the agora was built.
The first approach is that the Agora was built before 49 BC. Must have been built because the Roman senators stayed in Thessalonki on their flight from Caesar and declared the Thessaloniki forum to be the Roman territory to hold the senate there. The assumption is that the Agora was built in the years before 49 BC. Until it was gradually expanded in 138 AD.
The second approach assumes that the agora was built at the same time as the palace of Galerius around the year 300 AD. There was an earlier agora in front of this agora, which has not yet been found.
