The city harbor with the longest outer pier in Europe and the striking pedestrian suspension bridge that connects the city harbor with the city center is simply very beautiful. Even if there is no longer a ferry service here and fishing has also been greatly minimized, the port still has a very special flair. It is an attractive mix of fishing and tourism port, in the area of which there is also the fishing and port museum with the museum cutter "Havel". From the harbor you can of course go on tours with excursion boats and pleasure boats as well as deep-sea fishing.

In the days of the GDR, Sassnitz was one of the most important seaports. It represented the gateway to the Scandinavian countries. The former railway ferry connection from Sassnitz to Trelleborg in Sweden is known as the royal line. With a journey time of around four hours, it was the shortest direct ferry connection between Germany and Sweden. Entire passenger trains were loaded onto the ferry. The ferry station was connected to the much higher station via saw connections.
A new ferry port was built in Mukran for freight traffic. Broad gauge trains to the former USSR were also loaded there.

The way to the lighthouse is long, but worth it. And on the way back, the delicious fish rolls beckon directly from the cutter.
