The "Stahlberg Mine" was in operation for more than 600 years until 1931. It is one of the oldest in the Siegerland - the oldest document dates from 1313. The famous Siegerland quality steel was made from its spade. The steel mountain supplied the smelters of the northern Siegerland with pig iron, lead, zinc, copper and silver. Generations of miners worked here - they ran from Ferndorf and Kredenbach on miners' trails via Martinshardt to Müsen or came to Ernsdorf from the Kronprinz-Friedrich-Wilhelm-Erbstollen to their workplaces. Historically significant and important for the further economic development of the entire region.
In 2021, all the spruce trees were felled here too.
Hence a completely different look to the former mine site. Unfortunately, the paths and trails have also been badly damaged.
