In the east of the Reese Sea lies the Eco Lake, a paradise for rare animals and plants. The eco-lake was created in the 1990s, shallow water zones invite nesting birds to nest, the lake itself can only be reached by people on guided tours. Today there are more than 20 protected animal species in and around the lake.

A biotope lagoon that was designed in the early 2010s also became home to many protected animal species. The lagoon area of around ten hectares mainly consists of wetlands and shallow water zones. They were deliberately modeled from earth masses that come from the "Haffensche Weiden" excavation area on the opposite side of the Reese Sea.
