Very nice place to stay and picnic. Seating is available! And you learn a lot from and about peat. If one follows the rails, one will discover the peat plant still in operation.

The Himmelmoor is located in Quickborn and adjacent communities in the district of Pinneberg. With originally around 600 hectares of moorland, it was the largest moor in Schleswig-Holstein. Currently, peat is being mined in the moor. Originally, the peat extraction, according to a contract from 1919, should continue until the moor has disappeared. Meanwhile, however, the gradual renaturation of the sky moor is operated. The peat extraction is scheduled to end in 2020. Areas in the northern part of the Himmelmoor have already been rewetted. There are two circular hiking trails, where you can learn about the moor, a trail on the trail of the Torfbahn and since 2012 a riding trail around the moor. On some weekends, tours with the Lorenbahn are also possible. [Source: Wikipedia]
