The 10,000-year-old Himmelmoor is a raised bog in Quickborn. It was once the largest bog in Schleswig-Holstein and was supposed to be completely abandoned (after a contract of 1919). In the meantime, however, one has thought better of it and begun with the rewetting of the bog. The peat extraction is to end in 2020. Then the Himmelmoor should be designated as a nature reserve. (Source: Wikipedia) For the local recreation, it has a great importance. There is a riding trail around the moorland, trails of various lengths and the original peat railroad, with which you can make trips through the moor. This Torfbahn is maintained and maintained by the working group Torfbahn Himmelmoor e.V .. Furthermore, the Förderverein Himmelmoor is committed to preserving the ecological heritage of the moor. Recently, a nature-friend Moorlehrpfad was opened by the moor. This includes 17 experience stations, 23 information boards and a large shelter. All this was planned and implemented voluntarily under the leadership of NaturFreunde Pinneberg. Who looks at it, how great that succeeded, can only say: Respect. Very impressive. At the moment (October 2018) the Pinneberg bridge leading from Quickborn to the peat plant is closed (also for pedestrians). Alternatively, drive through the district of Rentzel through Schulstraße or park in Quickborn in front of the small animal practice and walk over the "blue" bridge.
