The water tower built in 1898 was used to store the Großhesseloher hillside spring water and transport it to Forstenrieder Park and to Fürstenried Castle. It was initially the property of the Royal Court Fountain Works. After the municipality of Solln and the state capital of Munich, which have owned the water tower since 1918 and 1938, respectively, the federal government has been the owner since 1982. The building was decommissioned in 1920.
The water tower is a round tower with a base diameter of about 8 meters. It is divided horizontally by surrounding cornices and carries a turret with a conical roof.
