The Maison Carrée is probably the most typical and best preserved Roman temple. It was built under Augustus (end of the 1st century BC) and was the "first of the youth", i.e. H. consecrated to the emperor's grandchildren. The temple exudes a fragile-looking charm that is based on the harmony of its proportions and on its location in the city, on a paved square in front of the contemporary building of the Carré d'Art, in which it is reflected.
