The pedestal was built from 1732-1734. The statue shows August as Roman Emperor, in Polish direction. Gilded early, its stature is gold plated since 1956.

The statue is more referred to as a golden rider.
It is the equestrian statue of the Saxon Elector and Polish King Augustus the Strong, which stands on the Neustädter Markt between Augustusbrücke and the main street.

The equestrian statue - golden rider - of the Saxon Elector and Polish King Augustus the Strong, carved in copper, has been on Neustädter Markt since 1736. The monument is gold-plated and shows the famous ruler in Roman armor riding east towards his kingdom of Poland. He and his son Friedrich August II created the magnificent baroque buildings and unique art collections that gave Dresden the nickname "Florence on the Elbe".dresden.de/de/tourismus/sehen/sehenswuerdheiten/neustadt/goldener-reiter.php

A golden statue is the equestrian statue of the Saxon Elector and Polish King Augustus the Strong, which stands on the Neustädter Markt in Dresden between Augustusbrücke and the main street. It is considered the most famous monument in Dresden and one of the most important sculptures of the Dresden Baroque.
The statue shows August as a Roman Caesar with armor in a northeasterly direction to the Polish kingdom riding on a courbed Lipizzaner stallion. The prince is shown in survival size. The rider and horse were originally fire-gilded. Gold leaf was used for the 1956 restoration.
