  • The small town of Vesser was first mentioned in 900 AD In the Middle Ages there was a hammer mill here, which was operated with the water power of the Vesser river. In 1690 a grinding and oil mill was built. in 1696 a cutting mill was added. 1700 the construction of a Zainhammer and 1809 another cutting mill. The recognition as a state-approved resort was successfully defended in 1999 according to the new criteria of the state of Thuringia.

  • The small forest community of Vesser - a state-recognized resort - is the smallest district of the city of Suhl.

    Described by the traveling poet August Trinius almost 100 years ago as an "idyll and a masterpiece of the first order for the painter", Vesser has retained these attributes.

    The most popular hikes lead to well-known destinations such as the Stutenhaus, a former horse stud farm run by the Counts of Henneberg, the Adlersberg with its observation tower or the Rennsteig.

    Anyone who loves longer tours or enjoys cycling will also find a large selection of destinations, such as Suhl with its hunting weapons museum and the congress center, the Kickelhan and the Goethe memorials near Ilmenau or Oberhof with its winter sports facilities and the Rennsteiggarten.

    After a long tour, the forest pool between Vesser and Schmiedefeld is tempting in summer, and in winter it's worth visiting the Ottilienbad in the nearby town of Suhl.

    Vesser in Thuringia has always been worth a trip, especially in winter. One of the largest natural ski jumps in Germany is located in the lower Vessertal. A cross-country ski trail and ski hiking trails are available for winter sports fans. A ski lift with a toboggan slope for children and beginners is embedded in the ski area.
