The small forest community of Vesser - a state-recognized resort - is the smallest district of the city of Suhl.

Described by the traveling poet August Trinius almost 100 years ago as an "idyll and a masterpiece of the first order for the painter", Vesser has retained these attributes.

The charming location in a quiet valley surrounded by wooded mountains makes Vesser a popular holiday destination for nature and hiking lovers as well as guests who want to really relax. At an altitude between 600 and 800 m above sea level. NN offers good holiday conditions even in winter.

The hospitality of its approximately 250 residents is proverbial. Cozy and inexpensive guest rooms in guesthouses and holiday apartments provide a cozy atmosphere.

The beautiful, natural mixed forests, flowering meadows and clear streams of the harmonious cultural landscape around Vesser are populated by a diverse range of flora and fauna, including numerous species threatened with extinction.

Black Crux Visitor MineGuided hikes through the biosphere reserve and on local history are offered from May to October.
Hiking enthusiasts have the opportunity to purchase the Vesserer hiking pass with a hiking badge.

The landscape around Vesser is crisscrossed with well-marked hiking trails, nature trails, a mining trail with a mining museum and the “Black Crux” visitor mine.
The most popular hikes lead to well-known destinations such as the Stutenhaus, a former horse stud farm run by the Counts of Henneberg, the Adlersberg with its observation tower or the Rennsteig.

Anyone who loves longer tours or enjoys cycling will also find a large selection of destinations, such as Suhl with its hunting weapons museum and the congress center, the Kickelhan and the Goethe memorials near Ilmenau or Oberhof with its winter sports facilities and the Rennsteiggarten.

After a long tour, the forest pool between Vesser and Schmiedefeld is tempting in summer, and in winter it's worth visiting the Ottilienbad in the nearby town of Suhl.

Vesser in Thuringia has always been worth a trip, especially in winter. One of the largest natural ski jumps in Germany is located in the lower Vessertal. A cross-country ski trail and ski hiking trails are available for winter sports fans. A ski lift with a toboggan slope for children and beginners is embedded in the ski area.
