typical forest farmstead from 1718! The outbuilding housed stables for small livestock in the basement. Was used privately as a holiday apartment in the recent past until about 2007, is a listed building and was extensively renovated about 8 years ago. Since it is located in the core zone of the PW and no supply and disposal lines are permitted, all other usage concepts have failed so far. Only the former supply ponds serve as "fast breeders" for gnats, horseflies and other endangered species, which makes it rather uncomfortable for hikers.

The Wieslauterhof is a more than 300-year-old forest farm, which was “built as a hereditary farm in 1718”. “Since then, the farm has been managed by many farming families. ‘They made their living from pastoralism, the valley was open, from agriculture, from the forest and from charcoal burning’, says forest manager Michael Grünfelder, who knows the history of the farm very well. The potash was used to make glass. In 1833 the small forest farming settlement even had 35 inhabitants. The Wieslauterhof [is] the largest annexe at the time, the largest district outside of Merzalben. "

Since April 2008, the Wieslauterhof has been under monument protection, although it is located in a Palatinate Forest core zone ("source area of the Wieslauter"). However, this classification as a cultural monument by the state authorities is very controversial! Because the strict nature conservation and monument protection restrictions in this forest protection area make future use (for owners or the public) not realistic, although a lot of (tax) money has been invested in the preservation of this monument so far..!

“From 1964 to 2007 the farm was leased [to be used as a weekend home]. Since then it has been subordinate to the Hinterweidenthal Forestry Office.”
“Right from the start [Forest Department Manager Michael Grünfelder] doubted that it made sense to designate the farmstead in his district as a monument. [...]
But the area is a dream for hikers.”

“The prohibition sign at the entrance gate to the property dates back to the days before monument and process protection, when the property was still rented. The still existing, closed gateway is intended to counteract unauthorized access." [...] "There is no direct entry ban for the monument protection zone. Only the nature conservation protection regulations for the core zone generally stipulate that entering, riding or driving on marked paths are only permitted.
