The prince-bishop Hofburg garden looks back on a long and rich history: first documented in the middle of the 13th century, it is not only one of the few preserved orchards, but is probably also the oldest historically documented tree garden on the continent. Together with the Herrengarten and the Hofburg, the Hofburggarten is today under direct conservation. While the prince-bishop's utility and pleasure garden was reserved for the clergy for centuries, the secluded jewel has now been made accessible to the general public as a place of cultural recreation and meeting place.

With its vine-covered arcades, the enclosed moats, the simple garden shed and the two cornerstones with a Far Eastern touch, the Hofburggarten in Brixen, which is surrounded by high old walls, seems to have fallen out of time.
Once reserved for the clergy, it has always been a place of retreat and contemplation.
