The Gründische Brunnen in the Speltach Valley is one of the most impressive springs in the Gipskeuperkarst. It represents a natural spectacle that is unique in the area.
The originally 7 m deep and 5 m wide water-filled natural shaft, on whose walls the white plaster shone in the bluish clear water, fell victim to a stream correction in 1927.
Around the mid-1970s, the flow from a spring near the old Gründische Brunnen increased. This was redesigned as part of the land consolidation process and now bears the name of the old spring.
The water outlet of the Gründisches Brunnen is related to the tectonic fault zone of the Neckar-Jagst Furche, a trough-like bend in the strata around 30 m deep here, which extends from the Neckar-Enz area to the southern Franconian Heights. The Gründische Brunnen is a popular hiking destination.
