When you turn into the street, you think of a landed UFO. In summer it is even accessible as a viewing platform. TOP!

The water tower Flensburg-Mürwik (Mürwiker water tower) stands on a hill in the Volkspark on the east side of the Flensburg Fjord in the district of Fruerlund, which is often added to the district of Mürwik. The water tower is also accessible as a lookout tower in summer and provides a view of the fjord and the city of Flensburg as far as Denmark. The water tower is a landmark on the east bank of the city and is protected as a cultural monument of the Fruerlund district.

The funnel-shaped building by the architect Fritz Trautwein no longer bears any resemblance to traditional water towers and was nicknamed the Flower Vase by the people of Flensburg because of its shape.

The structure begins at the bottom with a comparatively small circular floor plan, initially constricts towards the top, and then spreads out in a funnel shape up to a diameter of 24 meters. There is a circumferential viewing gallery at a height of 26 m. Above the gallery, the turquoise-colored building tapers again and ends with a very flat conical roof. A vertical structure is created by 18 white-painted reinforced concrete columns protruding outwards. They have the shape of a parabolic section and support the entire construction.

In the center of the tower there is an elevator shaft for visitors to the viewing gallery. As an alternative to the elevator, stairs also lead upwards. The water tank begins below the gallery and continues up to under the roof. It has a capacity of 1500 m³. It is a double concrete container with the basic shape of an Intze container. The inner and outer container parts can be filled independently of each other, an advantage for repair and maintenance work.
