König-Ludwig Trail

The eastern entry near Becklem is the temporary end of the König-Ludwig-Trasse, which leads from the Rhine-Herne Canal to Suderwich and Becklem and is later to be continued to Oer-Erkenschwick. The route on a former coal mine train route is one of the most beautiful bike paths in Vest Recklinghausen, along with the Allee des Wandels (from the Hoheward dump to Westerholt).

At Suderwichstraße 66, visit of the gardens with the former locomotive hall of King Ludwig 4/5 at the beginning of June and the end of August on the "Day of the Open Garden Gate Recklinghausen". Exact dates on the Internet (offene-gartenpforte-recklinghausen.de).

Visit to the private beekeeping BIENENHORT SUDERWICH especially for bicycle groups from spring and in the summer months with an informative tour of beekeeping including honey tasting.
Honey lovers are always welcome. Approach via KL-Bahntrasse by bike or via Suderwichstraße (bienenhort.de}.

On the König-Ludwig-Trasse, coal and coke were transported from the collieries to be loaded onto barges. The route was also used to transport people between different parts of the colliery.

The first sections of the KLT were built in 1885. In 1965 the colliery was shut down. Shafts were still being transported away via the KLT. Since 2008, sections of the route have been set up as footpaths and cycle paths.
